Delaware to the World: Houston

Tuesday, April 9 | 5:30 p.m. | St. Regis Hotel, Houston

UD faculty is bringing to Texas a variety of intriguing, groundbreaking topics of interest to every Blue Hen! Join us for these TED Talk-style interactive sessions whose topics range from the impact of sports head injuries, oil and peace to how babies learn to talk. The cost is $20 and includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine.

Faculty and Topics:

  • IT'S YOUR BRAIN: FORCE OF HEAD IMPACTS IN SPORTS
    Thomas Kaminski
Professor, Department of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology and Director, Athletic Training Education
Sports-related concussions are common in many contact sports. By studying the effects of repetitive head impacts—in youth players through professionals—is it possible to make the sports safer?

  • THE EYES HAVE IT: HOW YOUR BABY LEARNS TO TALK
    Giovanna Morini
Assistant Professor, Communication Sciences & Disorders
Discover how eye-tracking and other methods give us insight into how infants learn language skills.

  • OIL, POWER AND PEACE
    Saleem Ali
Blue and Gold Distinguished Professor of Energy and The Environment
In a world where petroleum often is perceived as a fuel of political conflict, Professor Ali will consider how to transform the global conversation on energy in more cooperative terms.
