Class of 2007
Recycling Fund

  • The Class of 2007 presented UD with a gift of $62,000 from parents, students and friends of the University. This was the largest gift the graduating class has given, and 24% over their intended goal. Contributions for the gift have been used as follows:
    • Three areas on-campus (Warner Hall, Dickenson F and Harrington AB) where recycling receptacles previously existed, have been paved to make the receptacles more user friendly.
    • Single stream recycling was made possible by the senior class gift of 2007. As a result of the class gift, 2,250 recycling bins were placed in dorm rooms and offices and 304 new hallway recycling containers placed on Laird and South campus. Assuming the level of recycling remains constant, it is estimated that the University will capture 134 tons of recyclables from these locations over the 2008-2009 academic school year. This would result in a growth in total recyclable capture campus-wide from 630 tons in 2007 to 764 tons, an increase of nearly 21%!
    • The Class of 2007 Recycling Fund was also used to support the inaugural Game Day Recycling Program. In just four games the University captured nearly 9 tons of recycled material - diverting 27% of waste from a landfill.
