Deanna Forgione AS '05
Deanna Forgione '05 grew up in Newtown, Pennsylvania, about an hour from the University of Delaware. When she first came to visit UD, Deanna soon realized she had found her new home.
“To my pleasant surprise, I fell in love with the campus on our drive down South College Avenue," she said. "The buildings, Gore Hall, The Green, the brick…it was beautiful. I knew the minute we finished the tour that I would attend the UD. I remember the day crystal clear. The next thing you know there were blue and gold balloons on the mailbox of our home and my family of four was moving me into my single room in Rodney B on a sweltering hot August day.”
At UD Deanna quickly became involved in various student activities. She was a member of SCPAB, the Panhellenic Council, secretary of Delaware Undergraduate Student Congress, Vice President of Alpha Phi, and secretary of the Greek Council. Despite being so busy, Deanna found time to enjoy campus life in Newark.
“In my senior year I had an apartment on top of my favorite pizza place - Margarita’s pizza," she said. "The apartment was in the perfect location, across from the epic Stone Balloon, down the street from the Little Bob, up the street from Kate’s, a quick walk to classes."
After graduation, Deanna began working for the NFL as an intern. After the internship was over, she was soon hired by the Field Operations department of NFL Films. Today, Deanna travels throughout the country and even internationally. She has worked at nearly all the NFL stadiums in the country, attended four Superbowls, and traveled to London for the International Series NFL Game.
Regarding her exciting career, Deanna says, “One of my favorite projects is working as the on-location Production Manager for HBO’s show “Hard Knocks”. I am immersed in the training camp of an NFL Team for 6 weeks, living with them and filming each day of practice. I am in charge of location logistics and getting the show out the door back into the hands of the editors at NFL Films in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.”
Deanna was recently awarded a Sports Emmy for the “Hard Knocks” show.
Deanna, who graduated with a degree in Communications, feels that the University of Delaware prepared her to be successful in her career.
“I remember attending lectures and speaking sessions where the Communications Department brought in high profile speakers in the communications world. Through the many different sessions I learned what I needed to know from live TV production to film making. In my industry, it is wonderful to have the background knowledge that I possess.”
