Don't miss a chance to experience one of UD's gems: Vita Nova. This evening of great food, conversation, and entertainment includes a three-course dinner with paired wines, a performance by UD musicians and the opportunity to meet other alumni. Student musicians include guitar player Santiago Cardenas and a cappella group YChromes.

Behind the Scenes at Winterthur Museum: A Saturday Symposium

Saturday, April 21
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library (5105 Kennett Pike, Wilmington, DE 19807)

(Includes admission to Winterthur, continental breakfast, lunch, and private tour of the Art Conservation labs)

Join the UD College of Arts & Sciences, Blue Hens and friends for this insider’s look at Winterthur Museum with special access to staff, students and parts of this national treasure that the public doesn’t usually get to experience, including the Art Conservation Labs and Library/Special Collections!

  • Learn about the internationally known University of Delaware/Winterthur graduate programs in American Material Culture and Art Conservation. Meet students and find out about their research.
  • Tour parts of Winterthur not usually open to the public: Art Conservation Labs and Library/Special Collections
  • Experience guided tours of the collection led by Material Culture students
  • Learn about a new exhibit curated by UD graduate students: “Truths of the Trade: Uncovering Stories of Atlantic Exchange.” Tracing paths of trade from Africa, North America, the Caribbean, and Europe...a newly acquired cabinet at Winterthur emerges as a tool in the lucrative business of moving commodities, including people, around the world in the 18th and 19th centuries. Reimagine objects associated with and representative of the Transatlantic Slave Trade from Winterthur's collections.
  • Finish the day with a walking tour of the new “Follies: Architectural Whimsy in the Garden” exhibit or visit the museum on your own, including “Dining by Design: Nature Displayed on the Dinner Table."
